Republicans want to lower the corporate tax rate to about 5.25% in order to allow companies to bring the money that they’ve hidden in offshore tax havens back to our country, where they will then use it to create jobs and help our economy. On paper that sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, their idea is rooted in the false belief that corporations care about American workers, which their actions prove they couldn’t care less about Main Street America. Mike Papantonio takes on 4 right wing mouthpieces who blindly support Wall Street’s continuous rape of America.

Poor Mike. Outnumbered again by corporate shills who perpetuate the argument that if you lower taxes, you get more tax revenue. Why is this even taken seriously much less promoted with such gusto into every available microphone?
How much lower taxes can these corporations pay than ZERO??? That’s the point that none of these people will address. It’s like the argument that you need the Bush Tax Cuts for the very wealthy to create jobs and then ducking the question of where all those jobs were in the past 10 years that the richest in America had Christmas every single day. When you have multi billion dollar profit making companies paying ZERO taxes, yet making use of taxpayer funded infrastructure, using their no-tax profits to buy every elected official in sight, fund every scientist or think tank that supports your ideology, and work so effectively against laws that will hold you responsible or accountable for anything there is something seriously wrong.
Of course, when their ridiculous arguments fail, they launched the personal attacks on Mike. More power to you, Mike, for putting up with their crap.
Who owns the CNBC Network? It sure seemed like a disproportionate amount of talking heads going up against Mike. Nonetheless, Mike did remain fairly calm and stuck with his convictions.
Indeed, trickle-down economics is probably the biggest political scam of our lifetime. Where is the proof (if any) that trickle-down economics has resulted in corporations giving people solid, secure, beneficial, and possibly unionized jobs in America over the past 30 years? Otherwise, corporations are obviously all for themselves, ultimately.
Also, on last Fri. night’s edition of Real Time with Bill Maher, the panelists were discussing how even a slight tax increase on the rich would dramatically improve the economy like it did under Clinton, and especially with Eisenhower taxing the rich 91%. So, if the Bush tax cuts for the rich expire after this year, what would they be so afraid of if they get just a few thousand dollars less on their income tax refund than they have under the Bush years?? – God forbid, they couldn’t get a tax refund that’s a few thousand dollars less from affording another desired and more expensive Rolls-Royce or yacht.
Since the past 30 years have consisted of much ungratefulness, I figured I post this video on “Affluent Teens”:
http://www.aish.com/j/jt/103032494.html
It says a lot about the disproportion of food and wealth in the world while teens in the wealthier nations are too ungrateful and take what they have for granted.
I just think that why can’t we be satisfied with an ADEQUATE lifestyle for those of us that are fortunate enough to have one like me? I still have my health, a car to get around, (part-time) employment, and a roof over my head.
My head is spinning. “On Paper” is the definitive term. Those corporate toadies made it seem as if this is a win-win situation – or Something like that.
The corporations made all this $$$ out of the country – where it doesn’t get taxed? – and so, if they Bring it Back, why not Reward their generosity (ahem) by not taxing it very much?
I Think that’s what they were saying.
And Mike was saying: No, because they ship everything overseas – thousands of jobs each month – they make all this $$$ – and then we want to Reward them for bad behavior!?!
I’m really confused. None of it sounds good to me.
The problem is, these ideas don’t get a chance to be developed.
Mike is correct in that if people of common sense could be made to understand these ideas, they Might agree w/him – as long as they see corporations for the looters and pillagers they are.
But Americans tend to be Pro-corporation, and I guess this show is part of the reason why.
It’s absurd to have 4 dingbats trying to talk over Mike.
Have 1 dingbat try to debate him. THAT would be fair. Or, given that it’s Mike, have all four, but give enough time for Mike to make his points. As it was, I could see Mike’s point, but I found myself thinking -
Well, gee, if the $$$ is going to Stay overseas Anyway, Why Not have it come back so it can be taxed?
I KNOW that’s not the truth, though. I know it’s a scam. I just don’t know HOW it’s a scam, but my natural scorn for corporate looters helps me see through the bull shit as best I can.
I’m glad Mike gets angry with these assorted jackasses.
What he left out is Why the corporations want to bring back the $$$. What is the part that’s Not on paper, that, if we Knew about it, wouldn’t sound so good? I couldn’t figure it out.
I don’t know if a thing I wrote makes Any sense. My head is too jumbled, today….
These friggin’ Reps are all the same. The are always for big business so that’s why it’s OK for corps to have offshore tax havens. They always reward big business and to hell with everybody else. A trickle-down economy never works. That’s something that should’ve been figured out by now. But I guess not because I saw a bumper sticker this weekend that read “Boy, Do I Miss Reagan.” Jesus Christ! What can you say to that? All I could do was scream!
The Bush tax cuts for the super rich do NOT work! That lesson hasn’t been learned yet either by these Reps. The super rich don’t spend those tax cuts. They save it. What stimulates a bad economy? Job creation and tax cuts for the working class. We would actually put the tax cuts back into the economy because we would spend it. Those are the 2 things that make an economy go. The working class is who will ALWAYS steer the economy. Look how Ike had the rich pay 90% in taxes and they STILL lived high off the hog. Obama wants to put the tax increases for the rich back to Clinton levels (which wasn’t as high as Ike’s) but still helped the economy and they are crying about that. (see my article above. It’s what Bill Maher said in regards to these whiners) I’m sick of these rich Reps getting everything. This is class warfare! They’ve had their fun for the past 10 years. It’s our turn. It’s like when Mitch “turtle” McConnell said “The rich will really suffer if they don’t extend the Bush tax cuts.” (Scream again.) How can anyone vote for someone who actually said that?
NR,
Thanks for the “Affluent Teens” clip. Said it all. BTW, the house in that video is modest compared to the McMansions I clean.
Colleen,
The Drew Westen article (thanks for providing it) says Exactly what I said, when I called in to RoF weeks ago:
“Now is the time to draw clear distinctions between the two parties in word and deed, and to remind the American people what will happen if they let the GOP deal the cards again.”
EXACTLY!!!
Colleen,
did Mitch McConnell REALLY say that!?! Holy crap. Well, if the tea baggy idiots hear That and Still vote Republican….
oooow, owe, my Head Hurts!
I wish that bumper sticker that says: Boy Do I Miss Reagan -
could be met w/a sticker that says: “he’s dead. You know Where to Find Him. Buh-Bye!
Ah, Zombie Reagan! LOVE Zombie Reagan!!!!
Here’s another Simpsons clip that sums up for this ROFR post how corporations want to get around taxes not having to be honest (even though this episode of the Simpsons came out in the ’90′s when there was more accountability):

Jude,
Thanks for the inspiring words!
NR,
I like that clip; only thing is, I doubt Krusty would be arrested, these days! Good for you, going to the Stewart rally!
chris,
the Dems are still the better choice, and we really only have 2 choices, which is unfortunate, but Norm Goldman said last night that America doesn’t do third parties well. For now, at least, it’s a choice between the 2. I don’t like it, but I’m a realist, I guess.
I will get to your link soon! I Don’t know who that lady is, that you mentioned. There’s Much I do not know, but I think I am getting a pretty good grasp, so far, of what’s at stake, overall.
I like Democracy Now, so I look forward to watching the link later today!
