The GOP came up with a plan shortly after the 2008 elections – they figured out that if they could just keep 1% of voters from reaching the polls in just nine states in 2012, then they could take back the White House. And they’re doing everything they can to make that a reality. Florida governor Rick Scott is already locked in a legal battle over voter purging with the Justice Department, and numerous states across the country are working on other efforts to prevent minorities, the elderly, and college students from reaching the polls this November. But there is hope, as Democratic leaders in Congress are working to pass legislation to prevent the GOP’s voter suppression tactics from being implemented, and Mike Papantonio spoke with author and Nation contributor Ari Berman recently about what’s being done to stop this illegal voter suppression.

Good interview.
There are many of us who were raised
in the Republican Party, who feel
that there is no political Party to
represent us in this nation. Where
are we to go?
My family were Lincoln Republicans and
helped him formed the Republican Party.
I want people to understand that the way
the Republican Party is today is not the
way it used to be. It used to be a great
party, but no longer. It always gets
back to the same question for me, where
do I go?
I talk to more people who feel that there
is no political Party to represent them
in this country. That it is no longer a
government of the people, by the people,
and for the people. They are tuning out.
Then add the lying and corruption and that
tunes even more people off to the political
process, because they think what is the point
of voting. We need honest and smart people
to step up to the plate and run for political
office, because if they don’t run, then
someone who isn’t honest and wise will run
instead. We should have our best people run
and not those who don’t have what it takes.
Romney the best that the Republican Party
has to offer, don’t think so? Obama the
best that the Democrat Party has to offer?
I think that both parties need to do a
better job of picking their candiates.
These are just my thoughts. I am not pushing
my thoughts on anyone. I have passion and
so if sometimes I come off as to strong, I am
sorry.
Still have to take it easy after the eye
surgery yesterday so watching the John
Adams mini series today. He is one of
my hero’s. Great man! He too was a man
of passion and conviction and not afraid
to fight for what he knew was right. We
must never be afraid to fight for the
moral imperatives in life. To often today,
people seem to lack that courage, passion,
and strength to fight, but just settle
for the lesser of two evils. I won’t settle
for Romney.
